Fallen Voices Sing Out To Stop The Violence

April 28th, 2012

On April 5, 2012 families throughout the City Of Boston and surrounding communities came out to show support for  the “What Is Beautiful Never Dies” project.  The Violence transformed project was launched on this day and was very special for many families who lost their loved ones to violence.

This project is the start of a calendar of events and was formed to bring healing and closure for the families.  Just the pain alone of losing someone you love to a senseless crime or violence can be devastating and leave emotional scars for life.  During the event many guest speakers came out to show support for a cause that was envisioned by Darrell Jones (AKA DJ 3rd Eye who also lost his brother and son to violence.

Even while incarcerated DJ 3rd Eye continues to show love and support spreading the word of peace and seeking justice for all who fell victims to violent crimes.  Through the tremendous efforts from his wife Joanna Marinova-Jones, DJ 3rd Eyes message will continue to support families who’ve had their hearts shattered by the loss of their children. Mixed emotions from the parents, friends and supporters filled the room bringing back very painful memories for each and every family member.  On this day the families united as one to spread a powerful message through music to stop the violence.

On February 14, 2004, I lost my cousin Sean Bernard Adams to a violent crime he was stabbed to death in Dudley Square in Roxbury MA.  The whole purpose of this event was to form unity amongst the people in the city and spread the word to stop the violence, stop the killing and maintain the peace on the streets in our city and throughout the nation.

Queen Yonasada the Granddaughter of Minister Louis Farrakhan.  Rapper Cormega  from New York City who rapped alongside Femcee Foxy Brown and MC Nas on his album “It Was Written”.  Minister Randy Muhammad from the Nation Of Islam all came out to embrace a very special night.

Boston Hip Hop artists that performed that night included Bay Holla, Mann Terror, Evan Schlosser, The Foundation Movement, Lyrical, DL, Letia Larok, BR featuring Deon Mose,  J. Hoard & The Greenhouse People, 2Face, Prolyphic, Dre Robinson and a special collaboration featuring DJ 3rd Eye.  Very powerful music memorials were created and dedicated to the victims.

Lilah Female Rapper Of The New Generation

September 14th, 2011

Female Rapper Lilah

At the age of 5 Lilah performed for the very first time as a special guest at a talent competition called “Roc The Mic”.  Everyone was expecting her to come out on stage and sing. She had other plans, holding the microphone in her hand Lilah started rapping from behind the curtain.  Then she suddenly emerged on stage wearing a blue jean jumpsuit trimmed in pink, along with a pink satin hat, this young lady was ready to blaze the stage.

The reaction from the crowd was amazing they were very surprised to see a little 5-year old girl to come out and rap they were expecting someone much older.  She quickly got the crowd involved with her, shortly after they were shouting her name Lilah!

Lilah has been around music since the age of 2, watching her older sister who is also a singer/songwriter record music.   She was inspired at such an early age to become an entertainer.  Music is definitely in her blood, Lilah has never been afraid of performing in front of anyone, and she never will be.

Now at the age of 11 she is still going strong, Lilah released her first single “I’m So Fly” which you can purchase on Itunes, Amazon.com, Zune, and many more online stores.  I also found out from this very talented female rapper that she writes her own lyrics and produces her own beats, which will appear on her new album when it’s released in 2012.  You can also follow her on twitter, and check her out on Reverbnation.com.

She has had the opportunity to meet and perform alongside major artists and entertainers in the music industry, which included Nick Cannon, Mario, Ricky Blaze, J. Holiday, and Mishon.  Lilah said “When I make it big I’m going to come back to my city, and start an non profit organization”.  She wants to help kids who are not as fortunate by starting a music program that will allow them to learn music and become successful young entrepreneurs in the music industry.  Lilah also said that she would like to explore many avenues as possible in the entertainment industry including acting.  Hoping to one day secure a leading role in a major movie. This young lady is learning the business early and is well on her way to the top to becoming a shining star, and the female rapper of the new generation of generation!

The event was organized by Warren Gardens Residential Association, Evelyn the Residential Co-Ordinator, and a resident of Warren Gardens organized the event, while Jada Holmes the Event Co-Ordinator was in charge of the entertainment. Also a gentleman by the name of Curtis an Activities Co-Ordinator, was in charge of the activities for the day.  The music was provided by Dive FM Radio a local online streaming radio station, who also came out to show their support for the event, and the people in the community.  The residents of Warren Gardens will continue to support their community, and each other by having family fun day at Warren Gardens every year.

Boston Artists Where’s The Unity?

August 23rd, 2011

When I think of Boston, MA I think of the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, and The New England Patriots. These are all sports teams who worked hard together, and earned the title of champions.  Team work is very important, and in order for you to become successful or make a difference it takes more than one person to make it happen.  So why are Boston artists still refusing to come together as one, and put this city on the map?  There is so much talent here in this city and so many artists trying to achieve the same goals.  My question is why can’t they achieve them together?  Working together seems to be a major issue here in Boston, everyone has a plan to make it, and  they are definitely on the right track, but nothings happening. In order for this to happen we need strong leaders from the music industry here in Boston who are willing to bring these artists together.  That would involve having a conference or meetings  so the artists can talk about the issues, and try come up with a solution.  ”This is our city and we hold the key to our success and future, unity is the key to put Boston on the map”.  My question is are Boston artists willing to put their ego’s aside to make this happen?  Or will they continue to just think of themselves like they have been doing for years?

I had the opportunity to interview Ray Diamonds an R&B singer from Boston, MA, and female rapper Cassisus The 5th first lady from the Original Nobodies their opinions, and views on Boston artists working together listen to what they had to say about the situation.

Amazing, phenomenal, and soulful singer  Tori  is a 23-year old R&B singer who has been singing since the age of 12.  Her love for music has grown tremendously over the years.  Her undeniable voice and determination to become a singer has led her to Boston Arts Academy where she studied and majored in voice.  After graduating from Boston Arts Academy she was accepted  into Berklee College Of Music System-5 summer program, and was awarded a $160,000 scholarship to attend Berklee College Of Music.  Tori was also the very first person to attend the System-5 summer program and receive a scholarship in the same summer. August 7th, 2011

Recently I covered a story on an 11-year old female rapper by the name of Lilah.  The last time I talked to her she was nominated for Female Rapper, and her single “I’m So Fly” for CD  of the year, at The New England Urban Music Awards.  Lilah was also chosen to perform at The Music On & Up Showcase at the Hard Rock Cafe were she received two awards, one for Best Stage Presence, and Recognition.  She is also the very first female rapper to introduce the rap category into the showcase at the Hard Rock Cafe.

I had the opportunity to interview Lilah again to find out what she has been up to, and she is currently working on her music project, and video for her new song “Legendary”. She  anticipates working with some major producers, but for legal reasons she’s unable to disclose any names at this time until everything has been finalized.  Lilah will be attending a Songwriters Composers Music Conference in Washington DC, on August 27, 2011.  This young lady is determined to let nothing stand in the way of her music, or becoming a successful entertainer in the music business.  She has been teaching herself how to play the keyboard, and might I say she is really good. Listen as she works on her new beat.
